backstory!

early life

im way too lazy to write this shit properly lol so uhhh here's a quick summary

alithien's mom silansia gave birth to eladrel while out in the woods and silansia fucking dies (HEALTHCARE IS IMPORTANT). alithien brings baby ela home and his dad jeleron is like ???? bruh this is NOT My kid i think ur mom is having an affair. im not raising this child

alithien is like "um ok fine then" and converts to catholicism in order to raise ela

the order of the everburning

ela wants to be a mage. alithien is poor and therefore cannot afford a tuition to go anywhere. oh well.

so alithien converts to catholicism and joins the church in order to raise ela. they discover that he is blessed by belore, a bel'orlash, and the valdeyn wildbane of the dawnguard tries enlisting him in WAR because they need more bel'orlash soldiers. alithien does not want to join the military. valdeyn says he'll give alithien money for ela's tuition if he joins the military. alithien joins the military.

valdeyn singles out alithien and grooms him while in the military. uh oh thats not good.

luckily alithien has made a friend! her name is kyrin starglance. kyrin notices the abuse and is able to get her rich brother in law, alimir ravenwood, to pay for alithien's transfer to work for house ravenwood. yay

the ravenwoods

alithien now works as a guard at the ravenwood manor. he gets assigned to guarding xalenore ravenwood's room, and one night he hears her crying. he asks if shes ok and she says no, they continue talking and they become friends. alithien worries about her though, she seems skittish and dances around what makes her sad all the time. but he doesn't want to press.

one day while off duty alithien picks flowers for xalenore and tries to give them to her, but xal isn't in her room. alithien checks at the magi academy since he's responsible for her wellbeing and he witnesses her mentor, thalorin silvermourn, assaulting her. alithien kills him and rescues xalenore. they return back home and confess to lord drenael ravenwood about what happened, and drenael is able to cover up the murder and let alithien off scot-free.

from there, xalenore and alithien become romantically entangled. alithien uses xalenore to scratch his savior complex urge thats been unfulfilled since ela went off to dalaran, and xalenore traumabonds to alithien.

not long after, alithien and xalenore gets married and alithien is promoted to captain of the prison guard.

kyrin and eladrel meet sometime after eladrel graduates from college and get married. alithien walks eladrel down the aisle, happy to see his sister and best friend happy together

the scourge invasion

while alithien protested, xalenore assigned alithien to stay within silvermoon city instead of going out to battle.

there are many prisoners in the ravenwood prison, one of which is a strange elven man by the name of aer'danas. aer'danas found alithien to be amusing and played with him, telling him of his upcoming future - eladrel will be killed by the scourge. alithien wants to know how to circumvent this future, and aer'danas tells him how: he must die in her place in battle.

so he does. alithien goes out and protects her. he saves her life at the cost of his own.

the ebon blade

alithien rises later as a death knight. he remembers little of his life. it's all a strange blur. there is one thing clear, though - he had a purpose, to protect his sister. he must find her again.

while training, the death knights capture someone familiar - kyrin. she speaks of what happens since alithien has been gone, of how everything went to shit. she tells him to remember himself, of their training together in the dawnguard. nothing brings him back though, until she mentions how eladrel went insane, how alithien needs to come back at least for her. alithien kills kyrin anyway, but he is thankful for this information.

he continues on with the ebon blade and their cause. once the lich king is defeated, he will be released to return to his sister. while with the ebon blade, he befriends many fellow death knights, most noteworthy of which being montresor marrowmane, rallador plagueweaver, lhenaya evenlance, and zurkosh wolfwind. alithien leaves them all behind, though. he has a higher calling now

the firelight party

eladrel was banished from quel'thalas - that alithien knows. but other than that, there isn't quite a trace to follow. alithien wanders the eastern kingdoms, hoping to find something that will bring him back to her.

eventually he catches wind of a dark warlock by the name of shadowscorch, who wields the void and experiments on the innocent. that description seemed to align with kyrin's account. while looking for the shadowscorch, alithien runs into the firelight party, a rag-tag group of adventurers that, too, seemed to be looking for shadowscorch, albeit because they want to serve her justice for the people she's killed.

aer'danas appears to alithien, sometimes. he reveals himself to be a bronze dragon by the name of aerazronos, and he teases alithien with clues and other information.

alithien befriends the firelight party and joins their ranks, becoming quite close with steve stevenson, burtus deathflame, and vaskari specifically.

they eventually find shadowscorch, and after confirming that shadowscorch is indeed eladrel, he betrays the firelights to join her side. a battle breaks out. alithien murders mih'keth and pexo copperspring, but eladrel is badly wounded. aerazronos appears again and gives alithien a choice to save his former crewmates or eladrel, and alithien chooses eladrel. aerazronos takes eladrel away to be healed.

the firelight party then gang up on alithien, knocking him out for his betrayal. they send him away to quel'thalas to be sentenced for his crimes.

return ot quel'thalas

when alithien returns to quel'thalas, he is sentenced by the new prison warden, raliyra ravenwood, who just so happened to be his sister in law. raliyra pardons him for his crimes but presses about the whereabouts of the shadowscorch, claiming that she only wants to help him find her. alithien gives all the information he knows, but raliyra says that there isn't much she can do...but she does know who can help him

her sister, alithien's wife, xalenore, was always brought back from the dead by the lich king. she was a san'layn, and worked for the banshee queen. she had plenty of resources, and raliyra claimed that xalenore would be able to help alithien.

while alithien travelled to the undercity to find xalenore, raliyra used the distraction to utilize her own resources to find and capture eladrel shadowscorch, sentencing her to prison for her crimes against azeroth. alithien returned to silvermoon to find his sister imprisoned. he was angry at raliyra for what she did to her, but raliyra said that nothing can be done now and if he wants to visit eladrel, then he should return back to his old job of joining the prison guard. alithien reluctantly obliged.

during his time working for the prison guard once more, alithien caught up with eladrel and some old friends as well, one of which being amaris stormtear.

• The scar on his face was given to him by his mentor and ex-lover, Valdeyn Wildbane. Valdeyn was drunk one night and shattered a wine bottle, attacking Alithien with the glass.
• If Alithien wasn't enlisted into the Order of the Everburning, he would've been a musician like his mother. I call this AU the "bardlith" AU.
• Alithien doesn't believe mental illness is real. Sigh.
• When he was a Sunblade, Alithien could channel the Rays of Belore to burn his enemies. Since his death, he is unable to summon Belore's power due to a loss of faith.
• In the Ebon Blade, Alithien was given the title of "Bloodbringer" due to his abilities to bloodbend.
• Alithien's most common combat and torture tactic is to boil the blood of his enemies.
• Alithien is a ruthless killer. He feels little guilt for his reckless violence, allowing him to slay his enemies with little hesitation - no matter the innocence.
• He is quite proficient in melee combat. Even without his death knight abilities, he was a force to contend with while fighting.
• Alithien tends to struggle in ranged combat against magic users. He can take on archers and sharpshooters, but mages and warlocks are a struggle.
• If Eladrel is involved, Alithien tends to go on a violent rampage. He will hurt anyone in order to rescue or save Eladrel.
• When his bloodlust is bad, Alithien tends to get out of control and occasionally hurts his allies.
