backstory!

Songkit was born to Shadowscorch and Cedarheart while on the Expedition for the Stars. As a massive journey is no place for a newborn kit, Shadowscorch asked her friend Somberdusk to return Songkit to Shadowscorch's own clan FogClan to be raised. There, he was fostered by his uncle Silversong, and Silversong eventually became Songpaw's mentor.

Songpaw found clan life to be uneasy. He wasn't with the Expedition for long, but he missed his parents along with the lax rules a travelling group would have. Songpaw yearned for adventure - adventure he wouldn't find satisfactory within his own territory.

He hated Silversong, he hated Somberdusk, and he especially hated his fellow apprentices, Blizzardpaw and Frostpaw. While hunting on his own one day near GroveClan territory, he ran into Finchpaw, a GroveClan apprentice who seemed to have a similar desire for adventure as Songpaw. Unlike Songpaw, Finchpaw was a pleasant cat who actually liked his clanmates and got along well with them. Finchpaw thought Songpaw was funny and strange, whereas Songpaw saw Finchpaw to be the only cat who would ever understand him.

The two apprentices would begin to meet in secret regularly. They had big dreams of exploration, of seeing what's beyond the sunset. Perhaps they would run into the Expedition again. Perhaps they would find something else. Either way, the two planned and planned for their journey, until they finally departed.
