Dapple was found as an abandoned newborn kit by a slightly older kit, Grey, out in the woods. Grey cared for Dapple the best he could in the midst of the warfare until Squirreltail, a warrior of GroveClan, found them both and took them in as his own.
Squirreltail was visited by GroveClan’s medicine cat, Amberfrost, where she suggested he meet with others leaving the various clans in order to form their own. The War of the Silent Skies had been dreadful, and Amberfrost had doubted Squirreltail would want his young kits to grow up in that conflict.
Dapplepaw was initially assigned to be Whispermist’s warrior apprentice, but soon after Dapplepaw fell to an illness where she lost most of her hearing. She was then assigned as Stonewisp’s medicine cat apprentice, where Dapplepaw performed her duty the best she could.
Dapplepaw saved two abandoned kits from a sickness, Flamekit and Shadowkit, and later that night both Dapplepaw and Stonewisp were granted a vision by a queen by the name of Berryback. Berryback was a queen from RidgeClan who tried escaping the war, but was killed for her treason. Her kits were then abandoned by the clan. Berryback thanked Dapplepaw for rescuing her kits, and trusted Dapplepaw to care for them going forth.
In honor of Dapplepaw’s great deed by healing Flamekit and Shadowkit from their sickness, Stonewisp granted Dapplepaw the medicine cat name of Dappleberry.
Dappleberry can sometimes be quite snarky and oftentimes sarcastic, but she is very loving and only ever wants to help. She tends to micromanage her clanmate’s health to make sure they’re all alright. She has a soft spot for kits, especially abandoned ones like herself. Relationships:
Dappleberry loved Squirreltail the way any kit would love their father. He protected her and cared for her and treated her like his own. He served his clan with no complaints, treating everyone with respect even though their origins may have been from an enemy clan previously. Dappleberry always respected that, and tried to be just like him in that way. His death was one of the worst days of her life.
While Dappleberry and Greystorm were close in their youth, they’ve never been so far apart as they have now since Squirreltail died. Greystorm’s depression impacted all of his relationships - including Dappleberry - and though Dappleberry desperately wants to help him, it is difficult for her to accept that you cannot help someone who does not want to be helped.
As Dappleberry’s apprentice, Dappleberry had her utmost faith in him. She always thought Lowlight had great potential as a medicine cat. His visions were profound. While Stonewisp oftentimes doubted Lowlight, Dappleberry always believed him - for better or for worse.
